How to Add Lockout to a Dynamic Single Axis Headrest
Want to add a lockout feature to an existing Seating Dynamics Dynamic Single Axis Headrest? With the appropriate upgrade kit and a few simple steps, a non-lockout Dynamic Single Axis Headrest can be converted to the lockout version.
In this Tech Tip, JJ demonstrates how to remove the existing outside plate, install the ball plunger housing and lockout housing, and reassemble the headrest. A 4 mm Allen key is the primary tool needed for the upgrade.
Watch the video below for the complete installation process.
What You'll Need
• Dynamic Single Axis Headrest lockout upgrade kit
• 4 mm Allen key
• Wrench
• Threadlocker, recommended
• Power tool, optional
Step 1: Remove the Set Screw
Locate the set screw on the underside of the Dynamic Single Axis Headrest. Using a 4 mm Allen key, completely remove the set screw.
This screw will not be reused, so you do not need to save it.
Step 2: Remove the Three Outside Plate Screws
Locate the three screws on the outside plate and remove them.
Keep these three screws, as they will be used to reassemble the headrest after the lockout components are installed.
Step 3: Remove the Existing Outside Plate
Carefully remove the existing outside plate from the headrest.
The plate may require a little force or adjustment to loosen and remove.
Step 4: Install the Ball Plunger Housing
Take the ball plunger housing included with the upgrade kit and screw it into the base of the headrest.
It is recommended to apply a small amount of Threadlocker and use a wrench to securely tighten the housing. This can help prevent the component from loosening during use.
Step 5: Install the Lockout Housing
Insert the new lockout housing into the bottom of the assembly and align it properly.
You may need to apply a small amount of pressure to move the housing past the ball plunger and into position.
Step 6: Reinstall the Three Screws
Once the lockout housing is correctly positioned, reinstall the three screws that were removed earlier.
Tighten them securely to reassemble the Dynamic Single Axis Headrest.
Step 7: Check the Lockout Upgrade
Confirm that all components are securely installed and that the locking mechanism operates as intended.
Your non-lockout Dynamic Single Axis Headrest has now been converted to a lockout Dynamic Single Axis Headrest.
