“Dynamic seating is an important part of maximizing any wheelchair users possibilities and mitigating their health risks. It is important to reduce their sense of confinement and to free up their sense of possibilities. This affects not only their physical movement but their sense of self and freedom of motion and thus expression.”

Stan’s point about reducing that sense of confinement really stands out to me. It’s easy to focus on the clinical side—tone management, injury prevention, equipment breakage—and overlook how restricted movement shapes a person’s whole sense of what they can do. I’ve seen how even a small allowance of movement can change someone’s engagement and mood through the day, not just their posture. I’d be curious how ATPs weigh dynamic components against static positioning for clients with strong extension forces, where movement and stability seem to pull in opposite directions.
