Jozie Rocks | Finding the Right Resistance for a Dynamic Rocker Back
Jozie is a 3 1/2 year old girl with the diagnosis of epilepsy and West Syndrome (also known as infantile spasms syndrome). She has difficulty maintaining position and seeks movement, particularly rocking moving. She uses a manual tilt in space wheelchair and seating system, including a Dynamic Rocker Back interface (DRBi). This video shows how important it is to have a variety of elastomers on hand when installing this dynamic seating component. The default elastomers are Clear and provide a Medium level of resistance. Jozie could barely compress these elastomers, which didn’t allow the rocking she sought.
In this video, we replaced the Clear, Medium elastomers with Yellow, Soft resistance elastomers, and as you can see, she can now rock! Thank goodness a set of four different resistance levels was available at install to ensure Jozie could activate her Dynamic Rocker Back.
