Description

Dynamic Seating can be used successfully on a power wheelchair, though there are unique parameters which must be considered. In this course, we will discuss the following concerns: Does movement within the seating system impact the client’s ability to drive? Does using Dynamic Footrests increase the overall turning radius of the power wheelchair? And can the Dynamic Footrests be damaged, or the client’s feet injured, if the client extends during driving? These are all valid concerns that will be addressed.

Learning Objectives

  1. The participant will be able to describe how movement through dynamic seating can actually increase stability and function.
  2. The participant will be able to list strategies to minimize impact of increased knee extension on driving maneuverability.
  3. The participant will be able to describe how dynamic footrests can be used to protect the client’s feet from injury.
