The Seating Dynamics Dynamic Single Axis Headrest provides posterior movement in response to a client’s forces while supporting the head and helping absorb and diffuse force. Its built-in Lock Out feature gives clinicians, ATPs, caregivers, and wheelchair users the ability to temporarily stop that movement when additional stability is needed.

In this video, JJ demonstrates how to lock and unlock the Dynamic Single Axis Headrest using the red Lock Out knob. Locking the headrest can be helpful during transportation, when traveling over rough or uneven terrain, during feeding, or for other functional activities where limiting head movement may improve stability.

Dynamic Head Supports manufactured after February 2023 include the Lock Out feature. Owners of older Seating Dynamics Dynamic Head Support Hardware may be able to add the feature with a retrofit kit.

How to Use the Dynamic Single Axis Headrest Lock-Out

Step 1: Locate the red Lock Out knob.

Find the red knob on the Dynamic Head Support Hardware.

Step 2: Pull the knob outward to lock the headrest.

Pull the red knob away from the housing, toward the outside of the wheelchair. When the knob is in the outward position, the dynamic movement is locked.

Step 3: Confirm that movement is locked.

The headrest should no longer move dynamically. This setting may be useful when the wheelchair is traveling over uneven terrain or during activities where additional head stability is needed.

Step 4: Push the knob inward to restore dynamic movement.

Press the red knob back toward the housing until it clicks into place.

Step 5: Confirm normal dynamic movement.

Once the knob is pushed inward, the headrest returns to its normal dynamic state and can move posteriorly in response to the client’s forces.

The Lock Out feature can be enabled or disabled as needed depending on the client, environment, and functional activity.
