“As a physical therapist and ATP who has been prescribing CRT for clients for more than 10 years, it is my experience, that the dynamic back is an essential component for clients with high tone. These clients require the use of a dynamic back to maintain optimal posture required to not only maximize independent function and participation in MRADLs, but to ensure safe and effective swallow, digestion, and respiration. Furthermore, in the absence of a dynamic back, an individual with high tone will place undue stress on the wheelchair and mounting hardware, resulting in hardware failure and damage of the medically necessary mobility device. The result is either the client cannot be positioned safely in their mobility device, compromising their safety, or the client loses all means of mobility until sufficient repair and replacement of hardware can be completed.”
